CHE Commencement
IFC and CHE launch national collaboration on skills
Quality higher education is crucial for integrating young people into the labor market in South Africa. The Council on Higher Education (CHE) prioritizes data-driven and research-informed decision-making. This approach aligns with the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) Vitae program, which aims to enhance higher education employability globally, including through its “Skills in South Africa” project.
Funded by the Government of Japan, the Skills in South Africa project fosters collaboration between CHE and IFC. It focuses on exploring student success and benchmarking employability processes. The goal is to understand market trends, challenges, and opportunities to improve graduate employability.
The Commencement
On December 3rd, a commencement was held bringing together key stakeholders in South Africa. The Skills in South Africa event launched initiatives that will take place next year, including:
- A Student Success in Private Higher Education Research Study
- A National Benchmarking of Employability in the entire South African Higher Education Sector
The plan is to unveil the results of this collaboration at national events, where hosts will present the findings and share insights that could lead to further impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing employability across the country.
